Rare Fire-House Art on Display in latest Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission Exhibition

Chris Eline of the Bethlehem Fire Department and Bev Hoover of the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission have collaborated to create a beautiful and rare exhibition of historic artwork and memorabilia celebrating the history of Bethlehem’s fire department from 1880 to the present. Included in this limited exhibit are old photographs highlighting various stations, original helmets and equipment circa 1906 and earlier. Also included will be a rare presentation bugle which was used by the fire chief as a means of communicating orders to the fire fighters.

In addition to the photographs and artifacts, four oil paintings that originally hung in the ceiling of the Monocacy Fire Station circa 1880’s will also be on display. These rare paintings relate to the fire department and have had extensive conservation work on them. They were rescued in the early 1980s, prior to demolition of the building.

The new art exhibit will be on display from January 15th through the end of February 2010. An Artists Opening Reception will be held on January 28th from 5-7pm. The event is free and open to the public. The exhibition is available for viewing weekdays during City Hall hours.
