Sculpture Garden Concert Rained In
On Friday, June 26, 2009,Mary Wright was checking the weather maps, doplar radar, and tea leaves to try to predict the likelihood of rain between 6 and 8pm. It was her job, as co-chair of the Bethlehem Fine Arts Commission’s Sculpture Garden Concerts, to make a decision by 4pm to stay in the Garden or relocate to the Rotunda in case of rain. All looked promising and she opted to stay outside. As the Craig Thatcher Band was setting up at 5pm, it still looked like a go. The lightning bolt at quarter of six caused some concern. By ten of six the band was nearly set up. At five of six, thunder clapped, the skies gloomed and the heavens opened. Audience members helped the band make a hasty retreat into the Rotunda. And “the show went on.”
Caption: The weather emergency and rapid relocation did nothing to dampen the enthusiasm of the more than 200 fans enjoying the outstanding show of the Craig Thatcher Band.
